Reginald Davis Johnson, FAIA is among the great master architects of the early 20th Century whose practice focused on grand estates of the Golde Age. While almost all of his work takes place in California, there are a few gems in other parts of the country. In company with other master architects of the time, Johnson is credited with defining what has become known as A California Architecture, a style that is firmly rooted in California history and tradition with hints of Spanish Andalusia influence.

Is an award winning California architect and regional expert on the work of Reginald D. Johnson, FAIA. He has spent countless hours documenting, studying, researching the work, family and events that influenced Johnson's life. With the support of many building owners, Robert is helping to build an archive of Johnson's work at the Huntington Library. In addition to his research, Robert is a saught after presenter on the work and life of Reginald Johnson.

The Man
Reginald D. Johnson was born an only child to a strong spirited father and doting mother in Westchester, New York. After early moves he spent most of life in Pasadena, CA. He graduated from M.I.T. in 1910 with a degree in architecture.
Family
His family was his life outside of architecture. He was an adoring husband and gracious father. He relished spending time with family. His beloved passion of horses began as a child and remained with him through his adult years.
The Work
There is no complete archive of Johnson's personal or professional papers. What does exist is limited or only exist at extant properties and only accessible through current owners.
The Book
A monograph of Reginald Johnson's work is currently being written. It will include 22 projects out of the nearly 200 extant buildings remaining of the architects work. Each of the subject buildings will be illustrated with photographs, drawings and text.
